Pros: Great clarity and magnification. Great build quality
Cons: Heavy, manual focus
I have had this lens now for over 2 years and use it almost exclusively for my Macro work.I find it incredibly sharp and works very well with a focus rail. The attached Panoramic Stacked image of a Damsel Fly is @ 2X magnification, 266 images in 7 panels. CAnon 5DmkIV with the MP-E, using a Wemacro focus rail at 230um travel 1/6sec f/5.6 (this i find is the sweet spot) ISO800

One day I saw pictures taken with this lens and I was stunned. Saved up some money and bought a non-new lens on Ebay. I didn't have a Canon camera, so I approached some friends to check its quality. When I took a few pictures, I was upset because it had a very small grip ... I announced it for sale ... But one day a photographer friend of mine showed me a video on how to shoot with this lens ... I didn't know before about stacking. But ended up buying some good macro rails ... Installed the stacking software and started getting ...

Pros: Variable magnification
With the right adapter very versatile
Cons: Its manual😀
I use this lens on Olympus with the Metabones adapter. This booster gives ‘extra light’ en some extra magnification. I have mostly the following setup. Studex tripod, ArcaSwiss cross bars, RRS macro rails, Olympus M1III, MP-E65, for this picture I used the Twinlite too. This picture is the smallest living animal I ever photographed. It is a baby springtail, I think halfe a mm in length and I had to use a second glasses to discover it.

Pros: Excellent build quality, excellent image quality between 1X and 3X, better sharpness between F/3.5 and F/ 8. There is a tripod foot, works great with Sony cameras. With a certain skill, it is very convenient for working in the field, if it is not known in advance what magnification will be used. Quite a working lens at closed apertures. Diffraction that inevitably occurs after the F8 aperture is excellently treated in post-processing. (in comparison with many macro lenses, it greatly wins in sharpness at the maximum closed apertures up to f16). Small front lens. Compact size when assembled - convenient for long journeys - saves space in your backpack .It has proven itself well on long hikes in tropical rainforests. There is no tendency to fogging. After five years of use in the jungles of Southeast Asia, no fungi or mold was found, it can withstand light rain completely without consequences. The contacts are not oxidized.
Cons: Heavy. When you change the scale, the shooting changes very much in size and begins to resemble a huge telephoto lens. There is no way to change the diaphragm mechanically - only electronically. Sometimes bokeh looks very ugly in pictures due to the small number of aperture blades. Not the friendliest lens to flash mounts - you have to print your own mounts. The learning curve is very complex - a tricky lens, much more difficult to work with than a 90-100mm macro. But all the disadvantages are more than covered by the picture quality,
Great lens but not for beginners. Allows you to achieve impressive results with a certain experience. Definitely not the only lens in the keen macrophotographer's arsenal. The essential tool for tough working conditions. Optimal choice for entomologist photographing live insects of different sizes without stacking in the field with flash. It has proven itself in the harsh conditions of the tropical rainforest. I highly recommend it!
