Vivitar was a very known Third party lens and accessories manufacturing company back in the 35mm film era.
It has build many lenses and some of them keep their reputation until these days prefered by many vintage lens users for photography.

The Vivitar (Komine made) Auto Macro 55mm f/2.8 is one of these lenses that there is lots of hype and praise around it. It is known for its great build quality, made out of metal and glass, just like the good old times.
It is a bit bulky weighting 315grams and it extends a lot when focused to the closest distance.

With a maximum aperture of f/2.8 is quite fast going down to f/16 when aperture is fully closed.
It is also known for its low chromatic aberrations and generally for its good overall optical performance.

The date of manufacturing is not known and I could't find any clues online but I think that is a mid 70's lens that went in production possibly, until the mid or more, 80's.

As you know until know I was shooting mostly close up photos using my favourite Helios 81n lens. There were many times that I needed a macro lens and even though I'm using a +2 close up filter, there were cases that it wasn't enough.
So I proceeded in adding in my lens collection another Legacy lens being this time a Japanese made VIVITAR Auto Macro 55mm F2.8 in Nikon F mount version.
I found one in ebay, in a pretty good condition for 110€ +13€ shipping from Italy.
It is going to by my first real macro lens and I'm a bit excited.
I like the fact that is a simple design implemented by 5 elements in 4 groups and I'm curious how it will perform with its bokeh, color rendition, contrast and overall sharpness.

When I will receive it I will write my first impressions as soon as possible.
