Pros: Price
Image stabilization
Build
Fast focus
F/2.8
Cons: None
I am no beginner.
I did my research and I found the reviews to be more in favor of the Tamron than the Canon 100mm.
Tamron's stabilization is two stops better than Canon
Making hand held macro shots more successful.
It focus's fast and is reliable
I have had mine for 4 years.
I do waterdrop photography
Mine lens has been splashed
and been through hell
and has had at least 25 thousand shot through it
probably a lot more
I haven't had a issue
At $525 new on eBay
You can't beat this lens

Pros: Very easy to use, quite light on your camera so great flexibility while holding in your hands. The sharpness of the photos is really good.
Cons: The longevity of the lens is not the best: my lens Tamron 90mm lasted me about 5 or 6 years at the push so it won't last you that long; I think it's quite fragile and at one point when you want to shoot with it at the end of its life, your photos are all black - at least this is what happened to my lens.
Overall a good lens for macro photography with a good price; the quality of the photos is really awesome.
