No because it's not really a macro lens... it has a 1:1.8 magnification with a minimum distance of 0.45m. It has for sure a nice bokeh with the aperture of 1.8. But real macros would become a challenge without extension tubes or a Raynox lens.

Alright, means it’s possible with an extension tube. I was wondering the quality how it will be.

The general quality shouldn't suffer from this. But please keep in mind that you'll lost a lot of light.

I'm not sure about the results if you use the lens in reverse position with an adapter. Might be an interesting option...

Thanks Helix_2648 Helix_2648 , I got a proper lens for macro, but just had this in mind. I guess you can shoot macro petty much with every lens when using reverse technique .

I'm shooting with nifty fifties.
I have used my nikkor af 50mm f/1.8D many times and the most of the times my helios 81n 50mm f/2.0.
I have also used these lenses with reverse adapter but depth of field is really swallow and you go very close to the subject.

The best overall performing 50mm lenses are the 1.8 ones.
Faster lenses ussualy suffer from softness and low contrast making them hard to use with their aperture wide open (1.4 or 1.2 or 0.95)
The logic of these lenses is to deliver great results at f/2.0 and beyond.
A 50mm f/1.8 lens is one of the best choices. They deliver very good results at f1. 8. They have ussualy simple optical formats with less demanding design and implementation. This also is translated to low cost fabrication. This is way they are widely popular. The Canon ef 50mm f/1.8 is an excellent lens Event hough it looks plasticy.
