Thanks for the input Jack
For me the exposure is OK, I added a strong vignette to isolate the orange on the insect against the green background.
But hey, it`s all down to individual interpretation

Jack, as an aside, re my post of a few weeks ago,
We are probably all viewing the images on screens with differing white points.
My screen is fully colour and white point calibrated with a Spyder.
Calibrating with the screens built in system will only give an approximation and needs to be done in conjunction with a calibration chart.
At the very least it should adjusted to see from pure black to pure white (or as near as possible) .

Good: the play of colors/perspective
I would have: smoothed the bg to remove the distraction of leaf contours/followed the rule of thirds
Good to have: a diffuser or a reflector to minimise the specular highlights

(only a matter of personal opinion, please feel free to ignore.. )

Thanks for you contribution Shan. Never a problem recieving constructive critique. As you say, it is a matter of preference.
Wherever possible, my preference is to show the subject in it`s natural envioronment but blurring the background would work well too.
I did in fact use quite heavy diffusion on the flash but the wing case is very shiny. I reduced it as much as possible in post without it becoming too obvious.

I understand what Jack is trying to say, I just shaded the picture a bit and put a circle to darken the background highlighting the ladybird.

But it's still a good shot @Bill Edwards

it's very important to calibrate the screen.
I never comment on pictures from my phone.
