Hi all,

Having a problem when shooting photos with my Sony a6400 with the Laowa 100mm f/2.8 2x macro lens.
I noticed that macro shots are not sharp anymore. When i shoot at a distance the photos are sharp.

Her 2 examples from this afternoon. The fly is macro shot (obvious) and the potbelly pig is shot from about 5-7 meters away.
Both photos are straight out of camera jpegs without any editing except for resizing to 3000 by 2000 pixels.
I used focus magnifying on the fly with focus peaking an focus peaking on the pig. I focused on the snout of the pig and the 2 little horns (no idea what the are called ) on the fly.
Photo fly ISO 400 - 1/50 sec - f/11
Photo pig ISO 200 - 1/60 sec - f/8

Is it me or is the macro shot not sharp and the normal one is sharp? Both shots taken free hand with me leaning on the fence and the waste container at home.

Solution
More than likely hand shaking normally you shoot 1/focal length of the lens (in your case 1/100 ) or faster if hand held. On tripod with a delay or remot you can go lowest you wish. I do suggest a Flash for the setup and a diffuser will make your life much easier .

I am going to do some test shots later this week. I don't have a printer so unable to print any test cards. Will see if i have something else that i can use for it, like a book. I got a tripod but i don't take that with me when going on a walk. If all goes well i should receive the Godox TT350s speedlite with 3 diffuser cards on Saturday. And then i need to learn using a flash for macro, but that is ok, gives me something to do.

Been doing a bit of testing, not perfect or accurate but i think good enough to determine if the lens is sharp enough. I think it is. Photos taken handheld. ISO 400 - 1/160 (flag) 1/250 (elephant) Not sure about the aperture, forgot to write it down.

Nor very happy at the moment. I ordered the Godox TT350s from amazon, got it delivered today. Unpacked it and it was a speedlite someone else returned before. The screenprotector from lcd screen was missing and there were already some unknown batteries inserted. Contacted amazon and speedlite is going back on monday.
