There's only one way for real 1:1 macros and that is a real macro lens like the 105mm Sigma,,the mentioned 100mm lens from Canon or the 90mm lens from Tamron. I would recommend a used lens to save some money.

Hi Robert , these lenses mentioned by you are ok. But they aren’t fit for macro photography, macro photography is 1:1 ratio. For that you need a proper macro lens, you can try raynox , personally haven’t tried , I think Helix_2648 can say more about raynox here. What camera are you mainly using ?

I've tried my canon with 58mm lense there OK but not quite what I was hoping as I've had to edit the picture to get it more clearer. For micro shots I use my Panasonic lz20 with 21x zoom lense and seem to get a better picture. Attached a picture using my lumix

These results aren't bad at all Robert , needs just some editing.

To get closer to the subject I would highly recommend to checkout this lens.

You can read others reviews and check their images, the quality looks to be ok.

I would say is affordable lens if you'd go second hand from ebay.
