my favorite ant from Guatemala.
apart from the fact that I find it beautiful, you can see how sharp and powerful its mandibles are... moreover it has a rather incredible utility since the indians of south america use them to make stitches... they make them bite the edges of the cut to be stitched and then tear off their head which remains hooked... the small incredible thing is that they distill a powerful antiseptic which helps the cicatrization.
on the second picture you can see a close up of one of her eyes...
I hope you like it...

Hello thanks for your comment :) I use a lot of materiel to achieve this kind of picture.. but you can do the same with some inexpensive material too.. you need a macro rail electronic or manual, a reversed lens or a Nikkor EL 50mm f2.8 ( if you use nikon stuff ) 2 led panel and a bellow like the PB-5 from nikon.. you can find all in ebay..
And if you really want to learn , follow Allan Walls photography on youtube ;-)

Wow, I remember reading about these ants long ago but haven't seen any more information about them since so I was never sure if it was a real thing. Amazing species, very unusual jaws, and the eyes are so tiny. Great stack, good details and colours.
