Amethyst is a violet variety of quartz ... Ancient Greeks wore amethyst & carved drinking vessels from it in the belief that it would prevent intoxication. Amethyst is a semiprecious stone that is often used in jewelry and is the traditional birthstone for February. Here I have combined a raw rock sample & a fine polished jewelry piece using super macro feature on the M100 Canon & lighting from a mini torch :
