I struggled for this rather simple photo! find an interesting angle of view, despite the Scabious (the flower) without hiding the insects (Sicus ferrugineus). So the sharpness is not there for the flower, but I find that it highlights the dipterans ...
Do you have any suggestions for this kind of situation, knowing that a few seconds later, the flies had flown away?
I should have increased the ISO and closed the diaphragm more, but I was taken by the action!

Hi L Leraymurat, the picture itself is really good! You've set the focus precisely on the flies.
Maybe try to reduce you ISO or use f/10 for pictures where you need a higher depth of field.

I played a bit with PS. I increased a bit the sharpness (LAB sharpening), the details and the contrast.
I also cropped the picture a bit to respect a bit more the 1/3 rule.

I find that this shot is really well done! You have done a great job, knowing the conditions and that these insects are prone to fly away very easily.
I am amazed at the bokeh with your aperture f/8. - it's such a smooth background and the sharpness is really well.
The crop that Helix_2648 Helix_2648 proposed suits the photo so much better as your first one had its subject a bit in the center. Other than that, I can only applaude your success!
