Today I had the opportunity to finally test my Raynox MSN-202. Mounted to my Olympus 60mm Macro and the 2:1 crop factor of the MFT chip, the picture you see is about 8x macro.

It's a cluster of tiny fungi growing out of lichen. I have absolutely no clue what this one is. They were about 1mm in size. Maybe a fungus expert can help Helix_2648 Helix_2648 ???

The image is a stack of about 200 images.

Edit: here is the group compared to the tip of my pinky finger.

Hi Baenki Baenki,

I've no clue what it is and I'm by far no expert for this. But I know where I can ask for help (which might be useful for you as well as you speak German):

Isn't it great to see those micro mushrooms with such a magnification? I'm always excited to see such pictures.

Helix_2648 Helix_2648 thank you for the link. I'll check there. It's awesome to see them like this. It reminds me of working under a microscope in the lab, but this time it's out in the wild and directly on location.

What surprised me the most is the extreme resolution you get. At first I thought the photo was somehow very grainy in the lichen, even when shot at the sensors native iso. Then I realized that if the mushrooms are about 1mm, one of these globular lichen pieces is about 100 micrometers, so the grains in there, are about 5-10 micrometers. That's not grain, it's probably cells.

Now you maybe understand my affinity for slime moulds which are not more than 3mm in height. I was able to go out today for a walk and I was able again to find some of them.

Totally. They are absolutely beautiful. I know magnifications like this and even stronger ones from the lab, but it is completely different and much more impressive to capture something like this by yourself, using relatively basic tech in comparison and getting results like this.

Exactly... out in the field with your limited euipment... and natural effects like the soft forest ground, wind and changing light enviroment.
