Using Flash light

How you set up your flash when shooting insects and macro ? Do you use it on Auto mode or Manual ?

I got a flash light 600RT II, but I don't know I will afford canon ring flash, they too expensive

I bought my ring flah for 80€-if remember well, useful maybe not best but useful and quite good price.. although here everything is expensive
I would like to "original Olympus " but too much expensive

Regarding my own experience, I use my cobra flash in manual mode playing between 1/16th and 1/8th of power regarding the magnification ratio I'm in. 1/16th power is only for focus stacking. 1/8 for single shots. Adjusting settings with ISO between 100 and 250 allows me more flexibility. Stacking at ISO 250 and 1/16 if effective magnification at 3:1. Single shot at ISO100, 1/8 power with same magnification ratio.

I use flash & camera in manual mode. Most important (and difficult) is to diffuse the light.
Usually set the speed to 1/125, lens aperture between 8 and 11, ISO 100.
