I was wondering what’s the difference between a lens which has built in IS and one which hasn’t. Is there any big difference?

Basically, a lens with image stabilisation you can use hand held when shooting, when a lens without its more harder to take pictures hand held. You will need a tripod to get sharp images with a lens without IS.

What you shooting usually?

Macro, birding and landscape. Ok, that’s why lenses with IS are more expensive.

If you have a tripod then I don't see any reason why to spend extra cash on lens with an IS, but it's nice when you can shoot handheld without having tripod on place.

Also is about your budget too, if you can afford or not.
