If you want to legally use up to date Adobe software then you do not have a choice
Jack My (and I suspect a lot of other people`s) situation is that I use Lightroom not just as my go to editing program but also for the DAM. I have used Lightroom from version 1 and it`s like an old friend.
There are as you say some alternatives and some are probably now better than LR.
Digital asset management. I rate all my images and give them keywords and the library is now quite large.DAM ?
