A square format would indeed look better. Flowers are really sometimes a bit tricky as the DOF is mostly too low to get the whole flower in focus so you've to concentrate on a specific detail and that's the problem. In my opinion Greg Shchepanek , you could achieve better results by having your f stop around f7, a flash attached and maybe adding a bit more saturation to the photo.
