Hi Desc1234 , that’s very interesting subject. I’ve never seen such of insect before. Looks similar to mosquito. Where did you saw it ?

Thank you, Jack It's a parasitic fly whose larvae feeds on bee and wasp larvae. The proboscis draws pollen from flowers in th adult phase, so it's both a parasite and an important pollinator. It's common during the spring and flies like a hummingbird. I photographed several in a graveyard.

Thanks for the info Desc1234 . That's very useful information. I never knew that. You can be surprised what you can discover while shooting macro photography.

Indeed, Jack, I thought it was a smaller species of bumblebee the first time I saw one.

The smallest I have are hoverflies and water striders. I'm limited to a 100 mm, which only lets me get up to 30 cm, hence a necessity for larger crops.
