OK, I agree that all adult insects have six legs so the other two must be tucked away somewhere?

excellent answer...full of logic. This family of butterflies is called Nymphalidae or Brush Footed. You see the extended palpi beneath the eyes? That is actually the modified pair of feet. Modified into a brush which is used for multiple cleaning uses. Now you know
