Study the composition John,this is no good.a lot of disturbing background...here is an example

The best one from these three pictures is the third one. But why have you switched the focus when you want to compare different DOF John LB? I agree to Martina about the perspective. It's tricky to choose a perspective which has such a high depth. Either it looks aweful with a small DOF or the background becomes to busy if you choose a higher aperture.

You might have done test of different DOF with the same focus point. In your example the focus point is never at the same place so difficult to choose which one is the best. You may consider diffraction of your lens too with very small aperture.
