Helix_2648 you would be surprised at how many Northern species are hanging around Germany...If you look for them. I am located in Ottawa Ontario but there are still Ice Age habitats and nature species that are located in the Ottawa Valley and species that are distributed all the way up to Boreal Forest, Canadian Shield and the North itself...just have to look to find what is around you...we even have Lemmings in the Ottawa Area that I have yet to get to see & hopefully photograph...If you find a bog/fen in your area there is sure to be Northern species in it that are unique to the habitat and the is both flora & fauna that I am texting about.

Not very good photos but they tell a story: It is so great for us in my location that during the winter the Northern species start to descend on our area to hunt for food & to just get out of the Arctic...Snowy Owl (Bubo scandiacus) Richmond, Ontario, Canada. I ran into three on that day...

Northern Short-Tailed Shrew (Blarina brevicauda) Britannia Conservation Area, Mud Lake, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The majority are located in the Northern States and do not appear in the Arctic:

A better shrew would be the American Pygmy Shrew. Due to the mostly Northern Distribution.
