Here a small explanation
The windmill you see here is called Nederwaard Windmill 2 is one of the Kinderdijk windmills.
The bridge you see is the entrance to the mill.
The mill dating from 1738 serves as a visitor's mill, but is now closed by the Corona.
There is a museum house in the mill. The owner is Kinderdijk World Heritage Foundation.
Kinderdijk "windmills"
Windmills of Kinderdijk-Elshout.
World Cultural Heritage in 1997.
The 19 old windmills built in 1740 along the channels of the river.
As early as the 11th century, the residents of the settlement surrounded the rice fields and wetlands by digging canals to build drainage systems; but the subsidence and the rising water level built dams on the edge. Around the beginning of the 15th century, residents transformed the windmill and the wheels connected at the bottom to the water wheel for drainage, as part of the Dutch waterway management system. The 19 existing windmills were built from 1738 to 1761.
It is said that during the Great Flood of 1421 a baby slept here in a crib that everyone calls Kinderdijk.
