Where the Periwinkle (Littorina littorea) Roam. An interesting story of an invasive species. Introduced to the Atlantic coast of North America, possibly by rock ballast in the mid-19th century. First recorded sighting in the East was in 1840 in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. It is now abundant on rocky shores from New Jersey northward to Newfoundland. Just a little info about Ash Meadows NWR, it is off the beaten trail and that is what makes it so special and that it is a desert oasis with beautiful springs & wetlands making it a fitting Ramsar Site and a Wetland of International Importance.
