I should have focused on the face rather than the eye

Yes and I am still getting use to the Super macro feature on my camera

Always without a tripod when I am on location in the wild

I never took my tripod outside, i must try it in the forest ^^ I think for bees, it's preferable to shoot many pictures using autofocus
