How did you get this black background? , Did you shooted in night?
No, this was taken during the day, but at f/10, 1/250s and ISO 100, almost no natural light reaches the sensor (especially in a forest, under the trees).
When you use flash with these settings, only the subject shows up in the picture. If there is anything not too far behind the subject, you may see it in the background, but not much else. To try this out, hold up your finger and take a picture of it at f/10, 1/250s and ISO 100 with flash. The area around your finger will be almost completely dark.
