Does anyone have any suggestions for how to improve composition for insects that are well camouflaged? It is interesting, but not easily an attractive picture.

It is definitely worth a different environment, because this way the tree trunk blends in a lot with its surroundings.

That's a good point, I do see them in many different areas now.

I would use a different angle so that the trees doesn't look tilted enormoushoverflies . Apart from that I would use another cropping so that the subject is not in the centre of the picture. And I would try to get a bit closure to get a more blurry background. It looks a bit too busy at the moment.
