Hello everyone. What's the real difference between shooting proxy and shooting macro. I know macro is when taking images at magnification 1:1 or more expreme. And proxy is something which you take on normal distance?

And which one you prefer to shoot?

I don't think that there's is a clear line between macro and close-up / proxy. Maybe per Wikipedia definition but not in practice. The 1:1 magnification is a good indicator for this. I would define a macro when your subject is as close to a 1:1 macro lens as possible. Extreme macros start if you can only show subareas of a subject. Like e.g. the eye of a fly.

But I think everyone has their own interpretation of a macro.
