This photo was taken last year and for me it has both good and bad feelings.
First the good; I have never been able to get this close to a dragonfly before and it stayed there a good 10 or so minutes, another amazing thing was the pattern on its back, I will have more pictures...

Red Sympetrum ... you've probably seen it before, but what's interesting here are the little red balls that you can see under its wings. These are aquatic mite larvae that use the dragonfly as a means of transport to migrate from one pond to another!

I saw this dragonfly which just came out of his cocoon that you can see beneath him. In this stage the dragonfly can not fly and has to wait untill the wings are dry.
