Most insects are found dead, this technique requires a totally still subject. Some insects (plagues) are frozen or put in alcohol, a technique used by entomologists to preserve them.

To be honest, I never knew that. But I don't think it's easy to find dead insects, as they could be food for animals..

If you search, you will always find dead insects in good shape to be photographed. Most of times you have to clean them.

Sorry for a question, may I ask please how you clean insects ? I'm assuming not in a shower with soap
